About Sunrise Greetings
Company History
Sunrise Greetings was founded as Sunrise Publications in 1974. Three liberal
arts graduates saw a market for contemporary social expression products
and began printing their own cards in a small garage in the college town
of Bloomington, Indiana.
The first Sunrise products featured native American themes. However the
company quickly grew beyond this niche and established a reputation as
a purveyor of stationery products featuring high-quality, unique imagery
from a diverse set of illustrators.
In 1997 the company changed its name to InterArt to reflect a strategy
of distributing additional licensed brands under the InterArt umbrella.
The following year the company was purchased by Hallmark
Cards, Inc. and became a wholly owned, independent subsidiary of the
largest greeting card company in the world.
In January 2005 InterArt became Sunrise Greetings. The name change reinforced
the identity of the company’s flagship card line and emphasized
its primary purpose: to create and distribute Sunrise Greetings products.
Today Sunrise remains a celebrated and well-loved brand among retailers
and consumers. Sunrise Greetings offers a full range of everyday and seasonal
greeting cards, with products in thousands of stores throughout the United
States and Canada.
