Max & Lucy had its start in near
disaster. Russ Haan was trying to start a greeting
card company with colleagues from his design firm
After Hours. In 1998, he took card samples and a newly
printed catalog to the gift show in Atlanta, hoping
to attract his first customers. To his dismay, he
discovered that a larger company already owned the
name he had chosen for his company.
Russ called his printer in a
panic asking if they could cut him a deal on
some new catalogs with a new name for the company.
The printer offered him a deal, but only if
he would take custody of two stray cats in his
warehouse. In the end the cats, named Max and
Lucy, remained in the obscurity of the warehouse,
but their names were destined for fame.

Max & Lucy hit the
ground running, and Haan was soon joined
by Mike Oleskow, who left a 20-plus year
career at AT&T to oversee sales at
the fledgling company.
Retailers and consumers love the sweet, sophisticated
look of Max & Lucy. The clean, simple
style and whimsical editorial are unique in
the marketplace. Max & Lucy now offer
three terrific card styles - available in
the Sunrise and/or Weinerdog lines - to invigorate
the minds of card shoppers: classic Micro,
bold Macro, and new Photo cards.
