Sunrise Practices That Benefit the Environment
- Many Sunrise greeting cards are produced on paper with recycled fiber.
- An earth-friendly card line called ecopolitan is printed on paper composed of half sugarcane by-products and half recycled paper. No new trees were used to make these cards.
- Most other Sunrise cards are produced on paper stock from sustainable forests. Sustainably managed forests meet the criteria of any of several forestry certification programs that set forth rigorous requirements for tree replanting, habitat preservation, elimination of illegal logging and other practices.
- Beginning in 2008, cards produced on paper with recycled or non-tree content or on stock from sustainably managed forests bear a special icon on the back of the card, along with relevant labeling.
- Our goal is to obtain 100 percent of our paper from sustainable sources, and by 2015, we will strive to reduce energy and water use, as well as solid and other waste, by 25 percent, and to significantly improve the recyclability of our products.
- Sunrise provides collection points for employees to recycle office paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles.
- Used computer equipment such as computer towers, monitors and printers is recycled or disposed of in an environmentally-responsible manner.
- Used fluorescent bulbs are recycled and components are reused.
- Sunrise has a van pooling program that allows employees to share a company-owned van when traveling on company business.
